December Intentions
WE DID IT! — We made it to the end of November and are now entering into the last month of the year. I seriously love the beginning of a new month. It feels so full of promise — a fresh slate and a full 30 days to get sh*t done. I am determined to enter into 2020 on a solid footing — mentally, physically, and spiritually. So here is a list of intentions that I am going to live by in December to make certain that the last month of 2019 is my best yet.
READ AT LEAST 50 PAGES EVERY SINGLE DAY
This one is self-explanatory, but I am 8 books away from my reading goal for the year (40) so I am reading like a madwoman in December. This is actually the first year that I have ever set a reading goal for myself so I am determined to reach this goal even if my eyes are bleeding by the end of it.
Curling up with a book in front of my fireplace and Christmas Tree also isn’t such a bad way to spend the majority of the month though — am I right?
SAVE $$ — IF YOU DON’T NEED IT, DON’T BUY IT
I know that this intention may sound funny considering December is the month of giving, but I want to enter the month of December from a place of contentment and gratitude. I feel like I spend SO MUCH TIME scrolling Instagram looking at beautiful posts of influencers wishing that I had that sweater or those boots — it is exhausting. Truthfully, I have everything I need and I don’t want to continue spending money that I could be saving on material items.
That being said, I also want to make building my savings account a priority for myself. I am very much a “treat yourself” person which definitely has its cons — aka I have a credit card to pay off and less in my savings account than desired. So cheers to more dinners at home and not buying anything unless I need it.
BREATHE DEEPLY, JOURNAL DAILY, MEDITATE
I have suffered from a Generalized Anxiety Disorder since I was in high school and self-care is imperative for me to keep my anxiety in check. I started journaling every morning in November, but I want to continue this habit into December. I also want to start meditating more often and taking some alone time for myself at least once a day whether that be a bubble bath, shower meditation, or cuddles with Beaufort.
CREATE BOUNDARIES WITH SOCIAL MEDIA
This one is HUGE. It is so hard for me to set a boundary with my phone and to stick to it, but it has now started affecting my relationship with my loved ones. I feel like I am never fully present when I have my phone — I find myself scrolling mindlessly through social media for no reason and missing important conversations or moments because of it. In December, I want to set a daily limit of an hour on Instagram where I can post, answer comments/dms, and engage with everyone, but aside from this hour, Instagram will be deleted from my phone. I am hoping that this makes me more intentional about how I use the app — only showing up, posting, engaging, with purpose.
SAY YES MORE — BUT WITH INTENTION
Because of my anxiety, I am a huge homebody. My comfort zone is my home, my dog, and my boyfriend — outside of that, it is really hard for me to push myself to socialize. It is one of those issues where I have anxiety until I get to the social outing, but once I am there, I have so much fun and am glad that I showed up.
This month, I want to spend more quality time with my family and friends. I know that it isn’t realistic to say yes to everything — but I want to make an effort to say yes to as much as I possibly can.
xx
